2023 Shared Micromobility Report

The 2023 Shared Micromobility State of the Industry Report by the North American Bikeshare and Scootershare Association (NABSA) was just released! This is the fourth annual report from NABSA and it is an invaluable source of information about what’s happening with bike share and scooter share in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

I attended their launch event and here are a few things I found interesting:

  • Shared micromobility in Canada expanded again with systems in 41 cities (up from 29 in 2022).

  • People made 25.9 million shared micromobility trips in Canada, an increase of 35% from 2022.

  • E-scooter deployment increased in Canada in 2023, accounting for 28% of all vehicles (up from 21% in 2022). This is still much lower than in the United States, where 60% of vehicles are e-scooters.

  • E-bike deployment in Canada is also lower with 24% of bike share bikes being electric, compared to 46% in the United States.

  • Across North America, 37% of shared micromobility trips replace car trips and 16% of trips are for the purpose of connecting to transit.

  • 2023 saw a 5% increase in public and nonprofit system ownership and 5% decrease in private.
